Akita Inaka School

We are a Japanese language school that is providing unique activities. Through using in practical situations, you can learn Japanese effectively and meaningfully.

Learn useful Japanese in the mornings, and enjoy the beautiful peaceful nature of the countryside after lessons. Explore the local area during your free time and actually be able to use it in practice. Fun activities such as joining local festivals, pottery classes or a sporting event with the local community are organised after lessons, to encourage you to use your Japanese, and also learn about the culture.

Our school is based in the former Nanataki Elementary School (七滝小学校), a school that sadly closed. Rather than letting the building remain empty, we wanted to transform it into a place where people from around the world could come together through language, culture, and genuine human connection.

Today, students from many different countries travel to Kosaka, Akita, not only to study Japanese but to experience everyday life in the Japanese countryside.

Akita Inaka School was founded in 2019.

Away from the tourist trails and busy cities, this is where everyday Japanese life actually happens. Local festivals, rice fields, quiet mountain paths, neighborhood gatherings — this is the Japan that most visitors never see. And it's exactly the environment where real language learning takes place.
