Experience the amazing snow of Northern Japan!
Akita Prefecture is a region with one of the highest snowfalls in the world.

ACTIVITIES:

  • Winter Festivals

    Highlights include a fireworks shows overnight, lots of festival stalls serving food, and a kamakuras (igloo).

  • Katana
    Experience Japanese Katana training and make your cut using a real blade.

  • Kiritanpo Making
    An Akita specialty, made from pounded rice!

  • Nanataki Falls

    A beautiful natural phenomenon, with a legend regarding a dragon.

  • Soba Making
    Together with locals we will make soba noodles.

  • Visit hidden onsens

    Hot springs are the best in Winter, gazing up with the snow falling

  • Snow shoeing

    Variety of trails including natural onsens and mountain views.

  • Pottery Class
    Make your own hand-made creation at the local pottery club.

  • Tour the Korakukan
    A kabuki theatre with a Western façade and a traditional Japanese interior. In Winter, you can tour the inside.

  • Kyudo

  • Bon fire and BBQ
    Warm up with bon fire, sausages, and BBQ!

  • Snow Monsters + Mount Moriyoshi
    One of the only 3 places in Japan where ice coats trees to form giant, otherworldly sculptures. What makes this different is that you can take in the amazing views and ride a gondola to the top! See the Sea of Japan on the way.

  • Meet the Akita dogs
    Meet and play with the adorable Akita dogs as you learn about the history and legends surrounding the breed.

  • Calligraphy Class

    Learn to write beautiful kanji

  • Bento Box (Magewappa)

Make your own bento box from the famous Akita cedar wood.

  • Taiko Experience

    Japanese drums! A local club can show you how it’s done.

  • Matagi Hunting Experience

    Follow the hunter trail and eat Bear nabe in the mountains.

  • Owl cafe
    There is a local owl cafe right near the school, to interact with the mysterious birds.

  • Mochi Making

PRICE:

$300 USD per night for the whole house
(up to 4 people. Each additional person $50 USD per night)

Pets allowed - $30 USD per pet (one off payment for the entire stay)
